While many express interest in becoming the best version of themselves, only 10-20% actually dedicate time and energy towards this pursuit. The rest are contented being a “jack of all trades, master of none.”
To self-actualize and achieve the best version of yourself requires embarking on the path of mastery, which is often perceived as a lifelong journey of stepping out of your comfort, going above and beyond yourself.
Katsushika Hokusai (1760-1849), master of print and one of the greatest artists in history is a quintessential example. He took 30 years to complete "The Great Wave off Kanagawa" at the age of 72, after numerous iterations over decades. Two centuries later, it is still the most famous global icon synonymous with Japanese art.
"Mastery demands all of a person" - Albert Einstein
Mastery is a deliberate and purposeful process towards mastering both your craft and yourself. It focuses on the inside and out. Externally, it is about developing deep expertise for your craft through 10,000 quality hours of active application, continuous learning, improvement, and innovation. Internally, it is about gaining mastery over your thoughts, feelings, beliefs, and actions to have a greater command of reality, and yourself.
In recent months, following the Tao led me to Aikido, Kenjutsu and Ninjutsu where I was offered the opportunity to train directly with black belts and experience the essence of mastery from the direct lineage holders and teachers.
I found a new way to dance, to relate, and to connect with the worlds.
Be fluid. Follow the Tao. Follow the bodies.
We live the interchanging world and we are one.
As I continually expand my experience of mastery in the modalities out there, it brings joy and fulfilment to teach twice in Japan last year, to connect and spread the Teachings to empower and enhance individuals to their paths of Mastery.
What does it take to get starting on mastering yourself and your life?
The answer lies within yourself, and embarking on your own inner work journey will help you discover who you truly are, what you are meant to do in this life.
